What is Slate?:
Slate is a fine grained metamorphoic rock created when shale is exposed to low pressure and temperatures which tends to split into sheet-like (cleavage planes) structures. It comes in a multitude of colors and because it has two lines of breakability (cleavage and grain), slate can be split into thin sheets and is often used for rooofing materials. A slate roof, rather than a roof of synthetic materials, is a more permanent, longer lasting choice of home builders.
How do I care for Slate Tile and Surfaces:
- New Installations: New slate installations need to be completely cleaned of any materials used in the installation process, in order to ensure that the natural beauty of the stone shines through. After the installation is completely set, the slate then needs to be sealed properly to protect your investment, and to maintain the stone's natural beauty and looks. We can do this for you at reasonable cost.
- Refinish/Restore: Like all natural stone surface, your slate needs to be maintained properly to ensure that its natural beauty endures for a long time. This means periodic professional cleaning and sealing to eliminate problems caused by normal traffic and environmental factors. We can do this for you whenever required
