What is Saltillo Tile?:
Characterized by its reddish-brown color, similar to terra cotta, Saltillo tile is traditionally made by hand and sun-dried before being put into the kiln. Because of this old-world artisan-based approach, the color, shape and size of each tile is varied just enough to make each tile unique to the space where it’s laid down.
How do I care for Saltillo Tile:
- New Installations: Any grout or chemicals spilled on the tiles can damage them, so it is crucial to keep the tiles covered with paper until the installation is complete. It is important to wipe up spills and dirt right away, as the tiles can stain. A good sealant will have to be applied to keep the floor in good condition. We can do this for your new installation to ensure that your flooring investment is properly protected.
- Refinish/Restore: Existing unsealed and untreated tile needs to be laboriously cleaned with diluted ammonia and "elbow grease", and lots of rinsing. Saltillo tile floors need stripping and resealing, before and after cleaning to do a proper job. We can take care of this whenever your floor requires this maintenance to ensure the value and protection of your Saltillo Floor.
