Slate Tile Restoration & Protection

Slate is a fine grained metamorphoic rock created when shale is exposed to low pressure and temperatures which tends to split into sheet-like (cleavage planes) structures. It is very different from most natural stones commonly seen in homes and businesses.  It's care is important to preserve the beauty and utility of this choice of flooring.

For new installations, we clean away any materials left behind from the installation process so that the natural beauty of the stone shines through.  Sealing the slate tile properly protects your investment and helps to maintain the natural beauty of the stone.

For existing slate tile installations, we strip away old sealers and coating to expose the raw slate stone.  We then thoroughly clean the surface and apply a fresh coating of sealer to the slate.  There are many choices to consider when sealing slate.  The sealer to choose depends on the look you desire.  For a natural look, clear penetrating sealers are used to provide stain resistance.  Enhancing sealers can be used to bring out the rich color and character of the slate tiles.  And for a more formal and durable finish, high solid acrylic coatings can be used to extend the time between maintenance
